It all starts here. And guess what, it does not have to be a cigar box. Do feel free to be creative.

One string is the bare minimum, four is pushing the envelope, three feels just about right, but don't be shy, if you want something different, do ask. I'm up to it.  

There are a number of commonly used tunings, I like GDG and EBE, but there are no real rules, just guidelines. Strings are cheap, try a bunch and see which you like.
